Aquaculture and circular production strategy

A primary objective within aquaculture is is to strengthen the resilience of the Norwegian fish feed system, by producing locally sourced ingredients, a commitment shared by our partner, BIO3.

The aquaculture sector is large and we have over 100 businesses within traditional salmon production, landbased and new species.

We also have larger production businesses within the value chain.

Skretting the largest production of fish feed in Europe and GC Rieber Vivomega with production of worldclass high quality Omega 3 oil. One of the main missions is sustainable and local food production, this is what our partner BIO3 will produce.

Ocean based industries is growing in our region. We have several companies looking at landbased production in Averøy and Aure In recent years we have also seen new businesses in seaweed, tunicats, cod and halibut.

We have over 700 people working within ocean based industries ( including fishery). To be able to grow in a sustaniable way the industry need to think about fishhealth, coexisting and better use of resources. One of the main missions is sustainable and local food production.

To be able to scale up the salmon production in Norway we need to ensure optimal fish health and welfare, implementing practices to minimize environmental impact, and reducing climate emissions from feed and food production by using more local ingredients.

700 individuals are employed in ocean-based industries within our region, including fisheries.
Over 50 locations for salmon and trout from Lerøy, Salmar, MOWI and Måsøval.
Our region is the largest exporter of goods in Norway in terms of export revenue per employee
